| The Rev. William H. Allport, II | |||||||||
The youngest son of an Army officer, Bill spent his life between the Mainland United States and Latin America. He played All-State soccer in High School. He attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, majoring in Political Science and Spanish. Bill played collegiate soccer for two years, as well as focusing on activities related to student life, government and relations of the college. Through college, Bill served as Youth Minister for St John’s on the Square in Carlisle and Diocesan Co-Chair and Program Coordinator for Youth Missions in the Episcopal Diocese of Central Pennsylvania. Following college graduation in 1998, he spent a year as an intern for the Diocese. The next year brought enrollment to Virginia Theological Seminary, sponsored by the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania and St John’s on the Square. In seminary, Bill divided time between life as student, diocesan youth program coordinator, and swing dance instructor/performer. Bill performed with internationally known dancers Jen and Marty Lau and Carla Heiney. In Seminary, Bill would meet an astute and beautiful student in the Masters of Theological Studies program, then Carrie Morrison. Through his time at the Seminary Bill worked as a staff member of Church of the Good Shepherd in Burke, Virginia and Samaritan Ministries of Greater Washington. Following their graduation from the Seminary in 2002, and during a hundred year flood of the Texas Hill Country, Bill and Carrie were married.
Following their years in Washington, DC, the Allports moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania (Diocese of Central Pennsylvania). Carrie worked as the Missioner for Children and Youth in the Office of the Bishop. Bill served as Associate Rector of St Thomas Episcopal Church, ordained a priest (or presbyter) on the Feast of St. Brigid. Within that Diocese, the Allports relished their shared ministry with passionate youth and young adults. In 2004, the Holy Spirit beckoned the Allports to downtown Honolulu. They freely extol God's treasure in the people of St Peter’s. This young family finds God's abundant love, support, passion, and faithfulness in the people of St Peter’s. Some members of our community affectionately know him as Fr. B. Beyond their beloved ohana at St Peter's, Fr. B has served our wider diocesan community as member of Diocesan Council, Vice-President of the Diocese, Compensation Review Commission, Task Force for the Implementation of the Diocesan Strategic Plan, and Nominations Committee of the Diocesan Convention. Currently, Fr. B serves as chair for the Emerging Generations Commission, as a member of the New Diocesan Convocation Planning Group, among other duties he serves at the direction of our bishop, the Rt. Rev. Robert L. Fitzpatrick, DMin. Fr. B is also reading for his Doctor of Ministry studies through Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California. The Allports passion and commitment to the emerging generations of the Christ Body continues in Hawaii with their support and ministry to the Honolulu community and Diocese in youth ministry, training materials, prayer gatherings, and advocacy. The Allports provide consulting, community appearances, and resources through MPMC - the Meat & Potatoes Ministry Collective. On the Feast of the Confession of St Peter, 2005, Fr. Allport was installed by the Right Reverend Richard O.S. Chang, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Hawai`i, as the thirteenth Rector of St Peter's. Fr. Bill and Carrie have two daughters and a black dog.
