Columbarium

The Columbarium Committee (Gee Sing, Myrna, Melvyn Ho and Ron Mazuk) have done an outstanding cleaning- up job cleaning up and designing marketing brochures preparing for the future.  At the combined service on December 4, we will celebrate this work and “reintroduce” the columbarium to the congregation.

Parish Hall – Renovation

The Vestry interviewed a number of highly recommended architects for the parish hall reclamation project and ultimately selected Paul Morgan.   Paul was the architect for the recently completed renovation at St. Clement’s.  He has a history with St. Peter’s that goes back many years.  Paul will be introduced to everyone at the combined service November 6, so please come out to meet him and ask him about this “connection”.

Members from Paul’s staff have already been on site to create drawings of our property.

In the meantime, we will be asking parishioners to participate on various committees designed to provide input and feedback on what they want your parish hall to be.

In the weeks and months to come, we will need everyone to pitch in and help with this huge project.  We won’t be able to do it without you!!

Parish Elevator

On 9/30, the building permit for the parish elevator was approved.  The delay was largely due to high turnover in the building department and the issues that inevitably surround retirements and new hires.

Now that the permit has been obtained, the elevator can be ordered.  We will be having discussions with Lloyd Sueda, the architect for the elevator project and Paul Morgan to coordinate the work.

Hawaii Kids at Work

After several years of advanced notice about the church’s eventual need to reclaim the parish hall for ministry, HKAW’s lease was terminated effective July 31, 2005.  Despite the lease termination, St. Peter’s is attempting to work with HKAW to allow them to vacate by the end of the year.  HKAW understands our need to have the parish hall back by 2006 so that renovations and new ministries can begin.  They have said that they already have an interim site and have assured us that they will vacate before the end of the year.

We wish HKAW well and look forward to beginning the new year where we can clean up and prepare to do god’s work.

Rotating Vestry Officers

Every vestry member who serves gives time and energy out of love for god and his church.  Serving on vestry is a wonderful opportunity to grow spiritually and to experience the camaraderie that comes from everyone working to achieve one goal.  More important, it is a tremendous opportunity to work with Fr. Allport “up close and personal” and even more, to truly see the lord’s work being done.   Make your will to serve known and join the vestry!

In an ongoing effort to emphasize transparency, the vestry will propose a by-laws change that will establish terms for vestry officers.  If effected, this change will also clearly reduce security issues that can arise when rotations do not occur.  It will also enable St. Peter’s to benefit from a “fresh view” to matters that involve God’s church.
