










| | Lay Associate for Family and Young Adult MinistriesMinistry Description Specific Responsibilities Application Deadline and Ministry Start Date Time Evaluation and Benefits Applicant Background Requirements Applications Requirements Ministry Description + The Lay Associate for Family and Young Adult Ministries works to encourage, inspire, and nurture young people, their families, and young adults of university age in the Christian faith. + The Lay Associate will supervise and lead the congregation’s various ministries as mentioned below. + The Lay Associate will report immediately to, and support the overall ministry of, the Rector. +The Lay Associate will empower and work with the responsible ministry groups of participants, volunteers, and community representatives. + The Lay Associate is not a youth minister, but ministry leader and developer among the many resources of St Peter’s. Specific Responsibilities I. Family Ministries A. Christian Formation 1. Coordinate programming, resources, and scheduling of programmatic ministry 2. Recruit, Train, Empower, and Support Ministry of Congregation in: a. Sunday School (An Immersive Formation Experience for Children) b. Youth Formation and Ministry c. Faith “Formation in the Home” resources 3. Encourage the intergenerational interaction of community 4. Coordinate the nursery ministry a. Enable training, scheduling, and resources of volunteers B. Community activities for families in the life of the congregation 1. Gather and Support Ministries and Materials for Family/Home Faith Development 2. Support small groups for families, youth, students and respective leaders 3. Share in the pastoral support of families, youth, and students C. Family &Urban Based Youth Ministry 1. Coordinate Specific Programs: a. Congregation Youth Ministry b. After-school ministries c. Community events 2. Family Focused participation in community events a. Recruit, Train, Empower, and Support Ministry of Congregation in this Area D. Family friendly worship 1. Assist in cultivating a corporate worship experience inclusive of multiple generations (Sundays, weekdays & special worship) 2. Assist in the writing, structuring and use of liturgy, music, and movement II. Young Adult Ministries A. Ministry to students 1. Recruit, Train, Empower, and Support Ministry of Congregation in this Area 2. Coordinate programming, resources, and scheduling of ministries for formation, mission, and fellowship 3. Connect and assist the community incorporate young adults with the congregation ohana 4. Guide young adults into ministry participation and vocational discernment B. Alternative/contemporary worship experience. 1. Assist in design, coordination, and leadership of new worship experience and service. 2. Cultivate this worship as multi-sensory and generationally in-touch. 3. Assist in guest/newcomer incorporation of this emerging community to the larger SPEC community. III. General Expectations of all Staff Members A. Seek an ever-deepening passion and love for God in Jesus Christ with a heart for mission and the Spirit-fueled transformation of God’s people B. Share and support the vision and values of our congregational life of mission and ministry C. Support the multigenerational and multicultural life of the parish D. Cultivate the gifts, ministries, and mission of “the called” (volunteers), including ministry description, and recruitment of “the called” E. Share in the team ministry and relationships of staff members E. Always supporting the ministry of the Rector F. Participating in Staff Meetings and Organization G. Share in the relational ministry of staff to the congregation H. Capable usage of basic office computer applications and equipment. I. Willingness to seek greater education and formation in ministry. Application Deadline: July1, 2006 Anticipated Start Date: September 1, 2006 Time * Full-time ministry * 5 Day work week, to include Sunday * Dedicated 24 hour period of Sabbath each week. * Vacation: 4 weeks and Con Ed: 2 weeks * Childbirth/Adoption Leave: 4 weeks * Sick Leave: 10 Days Evaluation * Minimum Ministry Agreement of 3 years/36 months. * Annual Staff Review with Rector. * Share in ministry area review/evaluation at 18 month intervals. * Personal supervision meetings negotiable. Compensationand Expenses * Commensurate with Experience, beginning $50,000, Equitable to ministry standards with cost-of-living consideration * Diocesan Health Care Plan (HMSA) * Professional Reimbursable: $1200 * Continuing Education: $2500 * Car Allowance, Reimbursable: $2500 * Appropriate Contributions to Lay Pension Fund of Episcopal Church Applicant Background Requirements * Minimal 5 years professional ministry experience with children, youth, young adults, and higher education, and/or family ministries * Minimum undergraduate degree with willingness to seek further theological education * Desire to minister in multicultural communities and environments * Willingness to receive as learn and grow * A servant-missionary heart for God’s kingdom and transformation in the world * Previous experience in creating and developing new, emerging worship experiences, and blended intergenerational worship * Candidate must be comfortable and conversant in worship, formation, and ministry of the Episcopal Church or Anglican Tradition. * Candidate must undergo standard national background checks. * Candidate must undergo Training in Sexual Misconduct Prevention according the standards of the Episcopal Church, or provide certificate of completion.
