St. Peter's Rector & Staff
The Rev. Diane Martinson, Rector
Pastor Diane came to St. Peter's in June 2013 after serving as a parish pastor in the Denver, Chicago, and New York City areas, as the Spiritual Care Coordinator for Kaua`i Hospice, and as a chaplain and teacher of world religions at ʻIolani School. She has an M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary in New York City and a Th.M. from Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Pastor Diane is an ordained ELCA pastor serving as St. Peter's rector under the Episcopal/Lutheran "Called To Common Mission" ecumenical agreement. She is originally from Wisconsin where it is way too cold for people who do not grow fur. She has lived in Japan and has traveled extensively in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Pastor Diane loves to cycle when she is not writing sermons, preparing for meetings, attending meetings, planning classes and teaching, visiting folks, or otherwise dealing with the day to day surprises of a church building that is more than a hundred years old and a church community that has evolved over 135 years! Pastor Diane has one son, Matthew, daughter-in-law, Teresa, and three grandchildren, Kailee, Riley, and Derek. |
Dr. Joseph Eppink, Director of Music
Joseph is our organist/choirmaster and facilitates our music program. Joseph comes to us from New York where he was Professor of Music Education & Organ at The College of Saint Rose, Albany. He was also the Organist/Choirmaster at St. Andrew’s Episcopal and the Conductor of the Women’s Chorale. His degrees in music education and organ performance have been from Western Michigan University, Indiana University, and Ball State University where his research encompassed alternative assessment strategies. He was an elementary music specialist for the Elkhart Community Schools in Indiana for 12 years as well as the Conductor/Founder of the Elkhart Boys Choir. Throughout his career, Joseph has enjoyed taking groups of singers and students around the world to explore cultures to propel understanding. He began the “Concert of Hope” performance tours whose mission is to bring hope through the wonderful gift of music to those affected by cancer. Joseph and his husband, Ralph, raised their three children, two of whom are on the mainland and one who lives on Oahu. They enjoy traveling, cooking, antiques, volunteering and being outside! |
Manny Dayao, Lay Associate for Worship & Music
Manny Dayao accompanies our 7:30am service on piano and assists with Thursday Jazz Vespers. He and his spouse, Rosa, have two daughters, Lily and Jasmine. Manny's full-time job is at ‘Iolani School where he is the band director. Manny received a B.M. in Music Education and Performance from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California and his M.M. in Piano Performance from the Boston Conservator. He has served as band director and consultant for the UOP and Northeastern University pep bands; and as musical director in theatre. Manny has also served as the choral director at Epiphany Church in Marina where he started a community program for youth called “Marina Sings.” Currently, Manny is a member of the O'ahu Band Directors' Association, the National Association for Music Education, and a Sinfonian. Aside from teaching at ‘Iolani and serving the church, Manny is busy raising his two adorable daughters. |
Susan Sugiyama, Office Manager
Born and raised in Honolulu, Susan attended the University of Hawaii. After going on exchange to the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where she enjoyed the change in seasons, she transferred to UMASS and graduated with a degree in hotel management. After working in Southern California, she returned to Hawaii, and worked in Waikiki and recently downtown Honolulu. She and her husband Glen enjoy golf, traveling, and gardening. They have family in Seattle and London, whom they very much miss visiting this year. |
Richert Au Hoy, Bookkeeper
A native of Honolulu, Richert retired in 2015 after over 42 years as an engineer for the Navy. During this time, he also completed 30 years of service in the Army Reserve, got a degree from UH in accounting, and served as Treasurer for both Lutheran and Episcopal churches. After teaching Physics and Math to shipyard apprentices for the past five years, Richert has decided to get a retirement job that requires more sitting than standing. The Au Hoy family moved from Hanalei, Kauai to Hiram Lane in Liliha over ninety years ago so he is looking forward to renewing friendships with those at St. Peter's who remember the family from many decades ago. |
Oriel Agcaoili, Sexton
Oriel has worked at St. Peter's since 1997. He tends the buildings and grounds with dedicated care and ingenuity. He is a master gardener and not only has green thumbs but green fingers as well! His happy plants keep St. Peter's grounds looking beautiful. Oriel is married to Caridad and together they have two grown children, a son, Bradley, and a daughter, Bernadette. Oriel and Caridad Agcaoili, Custodians Caridad joins her husband, Oriel, in tending to the cleaning needs of St. Peter's sanctuary and Parish Hall. St. Peter's is blessed by the care and attention they give to this church! |
