Velma Lee, Senior Warden
I've actually enjoyed being on the Vestry and also as Senior Warden these past few years! As a member of St. Peter's all my life, I firmly believe that the good Lord has blessed all of us with certain talents, knowledge, and skills, and it's our responsibility to give back to our community whenever we can. |
Dan Ching, Junior Warden
As I reflect sitting in the pews, coming back to St Peter’s after all these years, the long ago memories of this church. My grandfather, Sam Ching, was one of the founding members of this church. He used to tell us how they would sit on wood crates because there were no chairs. My father, Daniel Ching Senior, was a senior warden for many years. My mother, Ethel Ching, was in the choir and taught Sunday School. My three older sisters, Pam Leong (7:30 service), Laura Thue (late riser worships at St Mattress), and Cheryl Bochentin (10:00 service) went to the Priory and I went to Iolani. We were bribed to attend church by our grandfather who would take us and our cousins to some Chinese restaurant after church. READ MORE ABOUT DAN
Being an acolyte, I remember pulling the rope to ring the bell in the church tower, wondering how the priests, Bishop Hanchett and Father Cosby could drink up all the left over wine from communion no matter how much was left. I earned my God and Country award, Boy Scout religious award from Father Cosby, chaplain at Iolani and ex Marine chaplain. Also, my father told me how Father Kennedy would ask him where was I stationed in Vietnam when he heard a helicopter got shot down. He would pray for my safety since he himself was a fighter pilot. He gave me an Episcopal metal which I wore around my neck the whole time I was in Vietnam. Luckily, after one year, I came home and like everybody else promised to go to church. My wife, Hong Kong Catholic , who sometimes will attend St Peters but usually views the service on line. I owned a consulting structural engineering practice and general construction company then retired.. I retired too early in my 60s and got bored, so opened a certified organic aquaponics farm in Waianae until 2019 when I suffered a stroke so retired for good. Unfortunately, we used to live in Hawaii Kai and St Peters was too far away. However, our only daughter, a daughter of Iolani, attended Sunday School at St Peters. She followed me from Iolani, to the same college, then worked at our general construction company. She is the CFO for a construction company in Austin, Texas and has two of our grandkids. I enjoy working with Pastor Diane and her staff. As Junior Warden, I would like to upkeep the church facilities and maybe expand them more. Like Dr Glenn Pang said, my father, Daniel Senior, is looking down on me now. |
Term Expires 2023:
Karin Kimura - Vestry Clerk and Executive Committee Member
I am the one you see walking around taking photos at services and gatherings. Joining St. Peter's was like a homecoming because as a Priory student, many chapel services were at St. Peter's, including my baptism. Blessed with husband, Taka, who is in the choir, and daughters, Sela, Ella and Lena who are acolytes. |
Barry Wood
As a teenaged member and now a much older adult member of St. Peter's Church, I look forward to being part of the Vestry to help execute ongoing programs and projects. Throughout my life, God has blessed me in so many ways, and I hope to share what talents I have, to extend his message and reach as well. |

My family has been coming to St. Peter’s for about 6-7 years. My wife, Tricia usually works on Sunday so she comes when she is on vacation. My daughter Jenna is an acolyte. She will be off to college soon and is busy making sure the younger acolytes can take over while she is away. We usually attend the 10am service. I enjoy our warm and friendly fellow parishioners. |

As a life-long Episcopalian, I was born, raised and had my career in New York. Then my husband [Harley] and I retired to Hawai’i after 37 years at United Airlines [Harley] and 33 years for me as a middle school math teacher. A few years ago we found our way to St. Peter’s and are very happy to be here. I joined St. Peter's Knit Two, Pray Too (K2P2) knitting ministry and soon realized it was time to do more for St Peter’s. You can catch me at the 7:30 service. |
Janet Kim
Around 2006, we were looking for a church home that would welcome our family and give our daughter a place to learn and grow with a church community. We found ourselves at St Peter's Episcopal Church and immediately discovered it is what we had imagined. Many years later, our daughter (Ashlyn) has grown up and started college in Portland and it made me realize that I have more time now to perhaps do things I was unable to do when we were busy shuttling her to all her activities. So, now seems the right time to join the vestry and see what contributions I may be able to make to continue the progress of our church into the future. Hopefully, a future where Covid will be discussed in the past-tense and we will be able to celebrate Jesus and his teachings and be able to do together in one place again. I am currently retired and looking forward to traveling and doing some volunteer work. |

Sewing, singing, doing crafty things, and reading make me happy. I enjoy opportunities to integrate these (limited) skills as I strive to live my life as a faithful being and to share our salvation message. I am grateful to have served God and my fellow members of St. Peter's the past few years on the Vestry. It illustrates that anyone, even me, can serve God and this community of believers. |
Term expires 2025:
Chucky Nakoa
My legal name is Douglas Charles Nakoa. My family went to Kawaihao Church for generations. As the older generations passed, my wife and I attended St. Andrew's Cathedral. God was always present. Sandy my wife and I would attend New Hope Church , One Love Church and St. Andrew's Cahtedral. Sandy passed in 2016 and One Hope became my main church in 2010. When COVID hit, I went online, however I felt different. I saw Manny in the weight room at Iolani and we were talking about church. I asked about Diane Martinson and Manny invited me to come to church at St. Peter's. I believe it was the fall of 2021. I love it here because I went to Iolani and teach there as well I am very familiar with the service. My two sons also attended Iolani. The music at St. Peter's is a gift from God. I enjoy working out, playing music and writing songs. I wrote a song that comes from Galatinas 5:22, the fruits of the spirit "We'll Be As One". |

I have attended St. Peter's church for about 8 years now along with my husband Edmund and daughter Sophie. I participate in taking care of the church garden, help prepare meals for habitat for humanity and volunteer as a eucharistic minister on Sundays. We love attending St. Peter's and enjoy sharing our church home with new followers! |
